Hero ji's boat.

I've known my lovely boatman Hero ji for quite a while now and those of you who've visited me in Benares in the past will recognize him from our beautiful boat rides on the Ganga. Hero had a tumour in his stomach last year and had to sell his boat to pay for the surgery. It was a shock to see him when I visited Varanasi earlier this January. But he's back on track now and has bought a new 'old' boat!

The fun part is, that I've started painting his boat, with the hope that it would attract people and give him some business.

Gumti Libraries. Varanasi.

World Literacy Canada has 60 mobile libraries in villages in and around Varanasi. These mobile libraries are open everyday for the villagers to read books and offers a space to exchange information and improve their education. The posters on the sides of these libraries were torn and tattered and I have just designed new posters to go on them. One of them states an old Chinese proverb in Hindi 'It's better to light a candle than to curse the darkness'.
